Birthday in OKC

Birthday in OKC

So my birthday has come and gone.

The older I get, the more likely I am to forget my birthday.

I am official 26. I am officially in my late twenties.

Way to sound old.

So what did we do for my birthday?

Road trip!

We decided to take an 8.5 hour drive to Oklahoma City.

I know, it seems pretty random, but we were looking for a popular city that wasn’t too far away, that we hadn’t been to, and that had cool vegan restaurants.

I wanted to enjoy a nice vegan feast for my birthday without having to look at a menu and create something based on what they offered.

So OKC it was.

OKC is kind of a strangely cool city. It’s a pretty large city but there was literally no traffic and everything was within 10 minutes of each other.

It was definitely a big city with a small town feel.

OKC population, over 600,000 but it literally felt like less than 100,000 people lived there.

So back to the food.

While in OKC we found vegan donuts! We’d been looking for donuts since we switched to a vegan diet. There’s one place in our hometown that makes them but not often, and somehow we always miss the day they make them.

This donut shop was called ‘Holey Rollers.’

Their menu included powdered donuts, cake donuts, muffins, vegan coffees and more.

We decided to get a Kombucha, vegan hot chocolate, an apple fritter, a vanilla bean donut, 6 powdered sugar donut holes, and 6 cinnamon sugar donut holes.

Let me tell you, that apple fritter and donut were literally life! SOOOO GOOOD!

I totally would have went back for seconds if it wouldn’t have made me look like a greedy girl.

Vegan Mac & Cheese

After donuts we explored OKC’s awesome science museum. Fun for all ages, for real!

I got to ride a Segway and do some other cool stuff.

For lunch we went to a place called ‘The Loaded Bowl’ and that’s just what it was. A place that gave you everything loaded in a bowl.

We ordered loaded vegan nachos, loaded vegan enchiladas, and vegan mac and cheese. For dessert we had a gian

t vegan/gluten free chocolate and marshmallow covered Rice Krispie treat. I am not exaggerating when I say everything was amazing.

The food was cooked to order and presented so nicely. Just amazing. I don’t have the words to describe how much we enjoyed our food.

Sometimes I wish we had awesome vegan restaurants in my hometown, but then I think again.

Traveling to try vegan food, gives me a reason to travel.

After lunch we checked out the awesome Myriad Botanical Gardens. That place was stunning!

We finished off the night with vegan pizza. Nothing special. We were just tired and didn’t want to leave the hotel room. Pizza delivered, so that’s what we went with. We got our usual pizza order. A Cheese-less pizza with mushrooms, pineapples, and green bell peppers.

If you haven’t tried pineapples on your pizza, you are missing out. Pineapples make pizza so much better.

So, OKC. Awesome city with great food. I would definitely go again! The Loaded Bowl is calling me back! I have to go try the rest of their menu!

With love,
